Individual Counselling

The counselling journey begins with a phone call or email contact.  An intake form will be sent to you and an initial appointment will be made.  The first session is typically with the caregiver to review the intake form and assess needs and goals.  A service plan will then be put into place working in collaboration with the family.

Each therapist has specialized training so a counsellor will initially meet with the client to ensure the counsellor is the best fit for the client and the presenting problem.   We look at the client holistically; meaning we take into consideration the child, caregiver, school, and the community (as appropriate).  It often takes a community to raise a child and treatment can be more effective if all involved are reinforcing the skills and using the same language.

Community collaboration with the child’s school based team, parents/caregivers, counsellors, psychiatrists, pediatricians, and MCFD will be provided.  There is the flexibility to work with clients either individually or as a group, and to engage with all the support people in the child’s life.  We provide treatment and support across the child’s lifespan from preschool to transition into the community at graduation.
